What Are LDL And HDL
New to cholesterol? Here’s a brief overview of the most common lipoproteins – LPL and HDL.

HDL or High Density Lipoprotein

HDL Cholesterol Goal:
Aim High – HDL levels should strike between 40 and 60 milligrams. If HDL cholesterol is too high, don’t worry, this will not cause adverse effects on the health.
LDL or Low Density Lipoprotein
LDL cholesterol tends to build up and cause blocks in the arteries. Studies show – higher levels of LDL contribute to health problems, including cardiovascular disease and other heart diseases. This is why LDL is most commonly referred to as bad cholesterol, as opposed to HDL cholesterol, which is typically referred to as good cholesterol, or healthy cholesterol. As with HDL, low density lipoprotein is produced from the liver and also from diet.

Aim Low – LDL levels should strike below 70 mg.
